throw a shirt on, company is coming over
In time for Christmas present buying there are some hot new shirts being done up to celebrate the artists who choose to work in the medium. So often screen printing and t-shirt design is equated with flash in the pan ’street culture’ where the “art” is nothing more than a foil to push along trends with the half-life of a week.
That project statement from Pale Horse Design and Hydro 74 in conjunction with Back in Black Apparel reads a little something like this:
Hydro 74 and Pale Horse Design proudly present the “Back in Black” T-Shirt Exhibit - Showcasing limited-edition, one-color t-shirt designs by some of the world’s leading digital artists (who are the backbone of many of the major apparel brands we see today).
The purpose of this show is to highlight the artwork of the uncelebrated designers whose art you’ve probably been collecting in your closet for years, as well as to establish the t-shirt as a new medium for fine art.
Have a look at what they are doing, pick one or two up, I think I will as well.
No commentsO RNC, where art thou?
What’s up bitches? My apologies to Nate for not posting in a while, I have no excuse, but I will try make up for it tonight. The RNC ran thru our twin cities a couple weeks ago and brought a lot of shitty people to the area, but also brought a lot of good music in protest. BlackSanta and myself got to see all 4 original members of the Pharcyde, Mos Def and Atmosphere, and 2 days later got to see the concert of my life so far in seeing Rage Against the Machine for the 2nd time. We also had a show in between those 2 where Matisyahu and Dead Prez played, and Rage made and appearance but weren’t allowed to play cuz the police were scared. Someone did give them a magaphone tho and they did a little improv performance…
The copper presence in Minneapolis/St. Paul for the week of the RNC was ridiculous. If you’ve ever played Metal Gear Solid, you will know what this is about -
- it was like this all over both downtown areas….minus the exclamation points. The night of the Rage show it just got worse, riot cops were surrounding the target center getting ready for what turned out the be a peaceful night for the most part. Inside the pit however, it was not so peaceful. I was about 30 ft from the stage for the entire show and I paid for it, I still have bruises and was sore for about a week afterward but it was well worth it. This video shows the majority of the show with a minute or so of each song…
Moving on, but still on the subject of politics, check out this dope Obama shirt…available at 5 and a Dime.

For my Wayne track of the moment, I’m gonna have to go with the Cookin Soul remix of A Mille. Nextly, a couple tracks from the d-block boys Jada and Styles P….D-Block and the Lox crew are back, they’ve been puttin out a lot of good shit lately….my 2 favs recenty have been Jada and Hova - Who Run This? and some hotness from Styles P - The Gunman.
Next we have the classic battle of printer vs. cat….guess who wins…
I’ll leave you all with a little clip showing you how much I love you all. I’ve got chubbs for you
they’re mini - mini chubs, for you….all of you. Word to your motherrrrrrrr!?
No commentswhen enough is too much

“my inspiration was gay pimp”

the joke was pretty much on poor ol’ perez. he totally got scammed on and was given the number for flirt divert, in front of everyone, and its now entombed in the annals of the internet.
Art and Handbags?
Today’s Times has an interesting article about the continal crossover of designer commerce and contemporary art. I’m not sure what to think. The initial response, aside from consumer lust, is; does this exhibition deserve the cultural status associated with the Museum of Contemporary Art?
Here the permalink to the article, decide (or be undecided), for yourself.
simplicity = sanity
Reebok is coming out with a new shoe designed by John Maeda. John is some sort of super human artist/designer/scientist, perhaps even a modern day alchemist spinning hay into artistic gold.
At the core of Maeda’s design is his view on the “Laws of Simplicity”.
Finally, we are learning that simplicity equals sanity. We’re rebelling against technology that’s too complicated, DVD players with too many menus, and software accompanied by 75-megabyte read me manuals. The iPod’s clean gadgetry has made simplicity hip. But sometimes we find ourselves caught up in the simplicity paradox: we want something that’s simple and easy to use, but also does all the complex things we might ever want it to do. In The Laws of Simplicity, John Maeda offers ten laws for balancing simplicity and complexity in business, technology, and design; guidelines for needing less and actually getting more.
The shoe really is something special. There will only be 100 pairs made, so more than likely you won’t get one, instead wrap your eyes around this video and dare to dream.
